LOCAL CUSTOMS

Easter is quite unique in Syros. The two religious communities, thus the Orthodox and the Catholic, celebrate together with love, devoutness and mutual respect the Holy Days of Easter.

The Epitaphs from the Catholic Church of Saint George in Ano Syros and the Church of Evagelistra, as well as those of the orthodox churches of Agios Nikolaos, the Mitropolis (bishop) and of the Metamorphosis begin their route around the town and meet in Miaoulis Square, the main square of the Hermoupolis. There, devout prayer follows, while the chorus of Agios Nikolaos and Choristers sing the hymns for Good Friday.
