THE INDUSTRIAL MUSEUM OF SYROS
This Industrial Museum of Hermoupolis was founded in 1998, housing three exhibition halls, constantly renewed periodical exhibitions. Moreover, the museum organizes tours around the historic sites of the capital town.
The exhibit collection of old machines and tools consists of about 300 items from the 19th and 20 th century. The collection of textile industries, machine-shops, tannery, shipbuilding, food processing industries, etc, comes from local industries workshops.
The museum is to include a library focused on the Modern History of the Aegean, as well as an Internet library.
CYCLADIC MUSEUM
Opened in 1993, the Cycladic Museum is devoted to the enlightenment, through educative projects, of the young on the history and culture of the Cyclades clutter during the 3rd millennium BC, period also known as “Civilization of Syros-Keros”
The museum is housed in the “Ellas” Club, the intellectual centre of the municipality in Hermou-polis, and exhibits an interesting collection of Cycladic art and findings from the Cycladic period excavated in Syros and in other Cycladic islands, as well as exact reproductions of exhibits from the Goulandris Museum of Cycladic Art.
THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
The Archaeological Museum of Syros is one the earliest museums in Greece. Ii was founded in 1834 and is housed in the beautiful neoclassical building of the Town Hall, designed the Bavarian architect Ernst Ziller.
The museum exhibits various collections of findings from excavations made in Syros such as prehistoric finds brought to light in the ancient settlement of Chalandriani on the north part of the island. Sculptures, grave columns, and inscriptions dating from the Hellenistic and Roman period are also on display.
THE VAMVAKARIS MUSEUM
The medieval settlement of Ano Syros is the birthplace of the rembetika and bouzouki master (singer, player and composer) Markos Vamvakaris, who wrote “Frankosyrianni”, one of the most popular Greek songs. The museum is housed in his home, a traditional Syrian building, since 1993 and exhibits mementos, pictures, records and personal effects of the famous popular composer.
The square where the museum is situated is named after Markos Vamvakaris and his his statue has been erected there.
